There was a shortage of priests because families were no longer sending their children to the seminary. Many parents would say, “He is our only child—we cannot send him.”
So the Bishop made an announcement in all the churches of his diocese, asking families to encourage their children to become priests. But for months, there were no replies and not a single application!
Frustrated, the Bishop made another announcement: “If you are not willing to send your children, then send the fathers instead! The Pope has now approved that married men may also be ordained as priests.” 😬
